Stone from the region is prized for its deep black and grey striations - it was used to make Radio City Music Hall and the National Gallery of Art. These conflicts, combined with the cultural shifts of the early twentieth century, resulted in human evacuation and subsequent replacement by large colonies of sea mammals. In the context of a complex problem, such as climate change in the Anthropocene, this relationship has become increasingly political. &nbsp; &nbsp;Useful Fictions is a week-long symposium and a public participatory art project in Paris. It is a platform to embrace complex problems by modeling radical openness to research in which tools, laboratories, studios are shared between artists and scientists to generate research to expand concepts for ecological thinking. the project invites critique of the human-centered narrative that dominates and defines contemporary cultural consciousness. The issues we are faced with challenge us to reclaim knowledge creation by examining the idea of proxy and measurements in ways that will expand anthropocentric lenses. Stone from the region is prized for its deep black and grey striations - it was used to make Radio City Music Hall and the National Gallery of Art. The island was the site of a shipwreck in the 1950s that set off a series of geopolitical disputes. These conflicts, combined with the cultural shifts of the early twentieth century, resulted in human evacuation and subsequent replacement by large colonies of sea mammals. The animals have since moved into a house abandoned by the island’s former human inhabitants and established their own strict social order within the ruins. Sea lions, who have articulated limbs, maneuver up and down stairs and have therefore commandeered the upper floors. Seals are left to fight over the crowded first floor. Giant sea birds fly in to occupy the attic. The only human presence on the island for more than two decades has been that of a solitary government ranger, whom Hyde photographed on the last day of his assignment there. Each Session is a dialogue recorded and reshaped into experimental publications, objects, images, and installations. The project is an ongoing collaboration between Andrea Galvani and Tim Hyde, producing a series of collective works that often involve other artists, architects, scientists, writers, and musicians. Session No.2 is a journal made from a conversation with Brazilian artist Alice Miceli.
